Haven’t posted in quite some time. I’ve been slowly defrosting from this years long winter, spring cleaning and getting ready for the warm seasons!
Two weekends ago Pete and I planned a trip to D.C. to visit our friends and check out the cherry blossoms I’ve heard so much about. We left work Friday night and headed to D.C. and made great time!
First stop was a pretty amazing mixology bar called BARMINI. My friend Trish was SO excited to take us here, she has been talking it up for quite a while and boy she had good reasons to.
The bar itself was fairly small with a lot of really interesting pieces of furniture and art. Right up my alley.
The four of us ordered their flight of cocktails which features 6 amazing, handcrafted, out of this world creative cocktails. For example, the first cocktail we got was Caipirinh – a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaça. The bartender used liquid nitrogen to freeze the alcohol into a mint sorbet. On another drink our bartender used a hand torch to burn the wood on a wooden plank. After burning the wood the bartender placed an ice cube on the smoking wood and trapped the smoke and the cube under a glass. The ice absorbs the flavor of the smoked wood adding it to the cocktail. All really amazing stuff. I highly suggest checking this place out! You need to make a reservation so plan accordingly!
Cactus couch!! SO cool, more comfortable than it looks!
Saturday morning we made an EPIC brunch. I mean french toast sticks, bacon, egg cups, mimosas, croissants. A straight FEAST fit for kings.
After brunch we cruised on over to the blossoms near the Washington Monument.
Blue skies, 65 degree weather, it really was such a beautiful day! It was so warm. After being frozen for so long this really made me so happy.
The rest of Saturday we hopped around to a few really cool bars.
For dinner we went to a restaurant called St. Arnold’s Mussel Bar. They are known for their mussels and honestly they blew my mind. We got four (huge) orders of mussels, all different. We ordered the Thai Curry Mussels, L’Alsacienne Mussels (White Wine, Potatoes, Bacon, Leeks and Caper Cream Sauce), Spicy Italian Style Mussels (Spicy Italian Sausage, Peppers, Onions and Tomatoes) and Mussels Carbonara (Cream Sauce with Bacon, Peas, Egg, Garlic and Shallots). ALL so amazing, and each order comes with french fries and bread. A ton of food. The best mussels I have ever eaten in my life.
Sunday morning we set out to get brunch! The best part of Sundays of course! We ended up trying a new place called 18th & U that none of has have ever been to which I am always a big fan of.
There was a little bit of a wait but this place was seriously awesome. The bartender made us our mimosa pitcher with literally two whole bottles of champagne and a splash of pineapple juice for 20 dollars.. SO. GOOD. The food was delicious as well.
After brunch we stopped at Pleasant Pops, a really cute coffee/lunch/popsicle shop. We ordered a strawberry ginger lemonade, New Orleans iced coffee, guac (avocado and lime) and a vegan Mexican chocolate. They were so delicious and interesting.
Sun shining, mimosas in our bellies, pops in hand..it was a perfect morning! :)
What a nice mini road trip of a weekend! Good food, friends and amazing weather! Hope you enjoyed my post. Been up to a lot lately so looking forward to sharing more soon!
Lets hear it for the warmth! We missed you!
