Happy Halloween Everyone!!!
First off can I hear a HELLZ YEAH that Halloween is on a Friday this year!? I feel like Iv’e been waiting my whole life for this to happen again!
So this post is all about last Halloween’s Day of the Dead girl costumes and the process pictures! I think this is my absolute favorite costume of all time. My girlfriend Caitlin and I both love the history of Day of the Dead so we decided to really take the time and rock this costume.
We attended Half Full Brewery’s 2013 Halloween party, so we spent the entire day doing our makeup and really making this costume something to remember and turn heads!
We set up our huge makeshift makeup station in the middle of my living room and laid out all of our materials and went to town. We really didn’t go into this with much of a plan at all, we usually don’t haha.
We used all different types of makeup, but the makeup that worked the best was Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr eyeshadow in several colors. We used lots of other materials such as non-toxic black & gold acrylic paint, eyeliners, eyeshadows, white lipstick and white powder I picked up at a local Halloween store.
Other than that we just had fun freestyle painting while sipping on some delicious festive drinks!
Caitlin handmade and stitched the waist bows for both of our costumes with cute polka dotted fabric we picked up from the craft store. I created our flower crowns from black assorted fake flowers and leaves. I also added a lace fabric in the inside to resemble a vail and both crowns had different jeweled pieces that hung from the center to sit right above our foreheads.
We also purchased inexpensive colored wigs for a Zombie 5K we previously ran earlier in the month, so we decided we just HAD to reuse them! What on earth is better than colored wigs?! Thats right.. nothing. Caitlin hand sewed the wigs into short bobs with curls in the back.
Our outfits and jelwery were straight out of a combination of both our closets and the tights were from a local halloween store, which we also reused from our 5K! We found lace gloves at JoAnn Fabrics and cut the fingertips off and glued little spiders all over them too.
There you have it! Definitely my favorite costume thus far, and the two of us have had some pretty EPIC costumes over the years. We got a ton of compliments which always feels so good :)
Halloween is like our Christmas so we take it pretty seriously.. obviously.
I hope you enjoyed all these pics! I’ve been DYING to share them!! Let me know what you think in the comments below or let me know if you attempt a Day of the Dead costume, I would love to see!!
Stay tuned for this years costume shenanigans! Adios!
