On a very snowy Sunday back in January I was inspired to create something beautiful to reflect the world outside my window.
I decided to make something really unique for someone very special to me. Someone who’s more beautiful than all the snow covered hills in all the world. My beautiful mom.
Recently I’ve been experimenting with different materials and ideas for lots of new projects. I recently invested in a Jigsaw so that I could cut out custom wooden shapes for various crafts and it was time to test it out.
For my mom’s birthday, I decided to make a crescent moon wall hanging. It would focus on simple shapes, basic materials and lustrous colors. I incorporated the shape from the negative space of the moon into the piece as well, as together they are complete.
How can one not be inspired after glancing upon this! Such perfection.
Traced, cut and sanded my pieces down to get ready to paint.
I broke out all of my pearl and metallic paints, for they remind me of the freshly snow covered trees and white earth.
I used a mixture of wooden beads, embroidery thread, seed beads and rope for all the tiny details and accents.
I love how this came out. The colors shine and glisten just like the quiet settled snow outside.
All this snow over here on the East Coast makes for some good inspiration!
